As a new initiative for the Council’s Family program the first Join the Grand Knight and his wife for Mass and a tour was not a huge success, however, enjoyable by those who did attend.

The Vatican has announced this as a Jubilee year of St Francis; the 800th anniversary of his death; and this mass and tour was at the Franciscan Monastery in Kennebunk on October 4th on the Feast of St Francis.

The activity was open to the parish, and one member of the parish joined us.

The Bishop of Portland, Bishop James T. Ruggieri, a Third Order Franciscan, celebrated Mass at 11am at the Monastery.

The Main Chapel, the Infant of Prague Chapel and the Shrine of St Anthony were visited inside the Monastery.  The Monastery property is a 66-acre parcel on the Kennebunk River with some short, paved trails in the woods, with access to the Lourdes Grotto, the Fatima statue, the statue of Kateri Tekakwitha, and the Way of the Cross monument.  While visiting the Way of The Cross monument, we got to participate in the dedication of the rehabbed monument by the Bishop.

The visit was followed with some fellowship time over lunch in Kennebunkport.
